Yves Loday, the Architect

Sirena Voile

Nicknamed "Mr Catamaran", gold medal winner in the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, Yves Loday is a prolific and an innovative architect.

His architect-designer speak-for-yourself records are as eloquent as his victories in competition.

Since 1986, he has created numerous catamarans and dinghies like the SL 15.5 (national class for young people), the SL16 (world class for young people), the SL 5.2, the Topaz 12, 14 and 16, the Shadow, the Spitfire, the Shockwave, the Hawk F18, the Dart 16, the Laser EPS, the Mercator Schooner, the Funboat and a score of other models including the Extreme 40.

In 2000, he set up the company Loday White with his English partner Reg White, gold medal winner in the Tornado category at the Olympic Games in Montreal, developing their own range (Spitfire, Shadow and Shockwave).

Requested by Laser-Dart and more recently by Topper, in 2008, Yves has produced sporting catamarans particularly suited to clubs and sailing schools in more modern and recyclable materials (Topaz 12, 14 and 16).

End of 2009, by partnering with Pierre-Yves Robin and Jean-Christophe Amedee-Manesme in the restart of Sirena, Yves has thus ensured the durability of the SL16, catamaran of the World Championship ISAF youth, and has enriched the SL range with a new model in 2010: the SL 5.2 .

This demanding sailor navigates with success either on the sporting catamarans or on the Extreme 40 as well as on the transoceanic multihulls, as "Innovation Explorer" with Loick Peyron during The Race.

His catamaran of choice remains the Shadow, particularly since he has equipped it with a larger spinnaker.

Impassioned by his profession, he devotes a major part of his time to his design office and to the regatta. He has adapted and imported the P.M.A. system in 85 to France and created the Formula 18 in association with the F. F. V. (French Sailing Federation). He has also coached the Olympic English team (1999-2000) and the French team (2001-2004) in Tornado.

If you can’t find him on the water or in front of his computer, he is most likely sailing solo on his Druine Turbulent !
