Communiqué de presse :Singapour, La Baule le 16 Novembre 2005.
« LE COUNCIL DE L’ISAF CHOISIT LE SL16 »
Suite à la décision du Comité Exécutif du 6 Février dernier, le « Council* » de l’ISAF (International Sailing Federation), selon une soumission de l'Events Committee, vient de choisir le SL16 comme série mondiale jeunes. (soumission 086-05 / www.sailing.org.)
*ce council est composé de 40 membres représentant toutes les nations du monde de la voile.
Ce catamaran moderne dessiné par l’architecte Yves Loday et mis au point avec SIRENA , est un bateau redoutable tant au niveau de ses performances , que de son innovation.
En effet, le SL16 est extremement rapide , particulièrement sous spi et dans les manœuvres. ( régates 2004, 2005) .
Le SL16, une reussite marketing soutenue par un consortium international :
- ce catamaran deja choisi par la Féderation Française de voile ( version 15.5) est construit au niveau mondial en Grande Bretagne, aux Etats Unis, en Asie, et en France afin de répondre a la demande sur chaque continent .
- le dynamisme de la classe internationale et des classes nationales nous démontre l’ engouement pour le SL16. ( www.slica16.org) .
Quelques mois vont etre necessaires pour permettre à nos contructeurs licenciés de SIRENA et aux compétiteurs de s’ équiper, tout en sachant que les SL15.5 actuels peuvent devenir des SL16 avec le Kit SL16.

Regulation 17.4
A submission from the Chairman of the Events Committee and the Executive Committee
Proposal:
17.4.10 The Classes for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships are:
Single-handed Dinghy boys – Laser or Laser Radial
Single-handed Dinghy girls – Laser Radial or Byte
Double-handed Dinghy boys – 420 or 29er
Double-handed Dinghy girls – 420 or 29er
Windsurfing boys – Mistral
Windsurfing girls – Mistral
Multihull Open – Hobie 16 with spinnaker or Sirena SL 16
Current Position:
The Hobie 16 is currently the only Equipment that can be used in the Multihull Open
discipline.
Reason:
The Executive received a report from Olivier Bovyn, chairman of the Youth Multihull
Evaluation panel regarding the search for a catamaran with a spinnaker suitable for ISAF
World Youth Sailing Championship.
It was summarised that an Evaluation Event had been held in Quiberon, France in October
2003, where a shortlist of five catamarans had been selected. At the November 2004
conference the choice had been narrowed down to two; the Hobie Max and the Sirena
SL16.
Following further meetings with the two manufacturers in December 2004 Olivier Bovyn
reported that the Evaluation Panel recommended the Sirena SL16.
The Events Committee accepts the Youth Multihull Evaluation Panel’s recommendation
that the SL16 be adopted as the preferred equipment for the Multihull Open discipline in
the ISAF Youth World Championships.
The Hobie 16 with spinnaker is the selected equipment for the 2006 and 2007 ISAF Youth
Worlds. As a result, both the Hobie 16 with spinnaker and the Sirena SL 16 will be on the list of Classes to be used in the Multihull Open discipline.
